For over 40 years Clwyd Badger Group has worked to educate people about Badgers and how important they are to our ecology. We have developed strong bonds with many organisations who support our aims. We have rescued hundereds of badgers and worked to survey all setts accross North Wales.

Protect

We survey, map and monitor all setts across North Wales, reporting changes and challenging actions which will impact badger activities.

Rescue

We rescue badgers from across North Wales, from those hit by cars to trapped down manholes, each year we receive hundered of calls and our dedicated volunteers do all they can.

Educate

Educate

We educate many areas of North Wales, via our events, school outreach teams, and via questioning those in power when their actions are damaging our ecosystems.

The Story Behind Of Our Movement

Clwyd Badger Group was founded in 1983 with the aim of promoting the study, protection and conservation of badgers and their natural habitat. In its early years, the Group focused primarily on protecting badgers in Flintshire and the Wrexham area. Over time, its work and geographical area have expanded considerably, and the Group now operates across North Wales, from Gwynedd to the Cheshire border.

The Group was granted charitable status in 1986 and has established strong links with organisations and is the Badger Trust Affiliate in North Wales.

Badgers have faced persecution from humans for hundreds of years. Historically, this has included the digging out of badger setts to expose the animals to dogs, badger baiting, lamping and shooting. Other forms of persecution have included gassing, poisoning and snaring. Although these activities are illegal and are condemned by the vast majority of people, they continue to pose a serious threat to badgers in some areas.

Become a Member and Volunteer

We have a great team of dedicated badger people, from ecology experts to rescue & rehabilitation. You don’t need to be an expert in badgers, just want to protect them.

Patnerships and Connections

We work closely with a wide range of organisations across North Wales, while also supporting many others where our help is needed. By building strong relationships and working together, we can help protect badgers more effectively. Many organisations across North Wales know that Clwyd Badger Group is here to offer advice, support and practical assistance whenever it is needed.

Bovine TB & Badgers

For decades the badger has been a scape goat for cattle infected with bTB, over and over further research has proven this has not been the case.
